HUNTSVILLE, AL. — EDT-THA announces today that Interior Designer, Danae Qualls, won the Bronze award in the Hospitality category of the Design Excellence Awards for their Beer Garden project in the Huntsville International Airport.
”The Beer Garden is one of the projects that I am most proud of the end result. The whole team put a lot of hard work into it and winning an award for it is proof that our hard work paid off.” stated Danae Qualls.
The project team consisted of David McClendon as Project Architect, Beth Bennett as Project Manager, Danae Qualls and April Wade as the Interior Designers. The award as given by the Alabama Chapter of The American Society of Interior Designers which is the oldest, largest multi-disciplinary professional organization for interior designers, interior design students and the manufacturers and suppliers.
The goal of this project was to transform the dated bar and lounge at Huntsville International Airport into an industrial yet warm space that invites airport passengers to come and linger. All the finishes, fixtures and furniture were selected for their durability in a high-traffic environment while keeping comfort in mind. In an effort to use as many local vendors and resources as possible, EDT-THA used the work of local furniture artisan, Robin Wade, who complemented the overall design concept. From the artwork to the custom beer growler light fixtures, and Architect David McClendon’s custom-built beer bottle wall, this project provides its customers with an immersive space that is not only relaxing and inviting, but also intriguing.
Designer, April Wade says, ”The Beer Garden was a fun project for our team to work on! In the final week of the project wrapping up, our team got to spend time together on site getting our hands dirty assembling furniture, installing the beer bottle wall and green wall, and putting up artwork. Winning an award for this project is an incredible reward for each of us.”
Principal Architect Jennifer Thorington-Hines added, "It was a pleasure working with our client, Airhost on this project". The client’s vision to revitalize this space with new life and energy allowed us the creative freedom to design for a refreshing retreat for the travelers of Huntsville International Airport. We look forward to working with them on additional projects in the future".
