The Engineering Design Technologies, Inc. (EDT) Team provided Architecture and Engineering Design Services to the City of Huntsville as Prime for the conversion of Grissom High School to an active Community Center. Scope of work for Phase 1 of the 110,616 SF Community Complex consisted of partial demolition of the existing Grissom High School, renovation to the existing ball fields and adding site improvements. Phase 1 also included selective demolition of the existing center connector pod (8,907 SF), demolition of the north campus (212,396 SF) and the addition of a new north entry lobby (1,226 SF) to the existing building. Site improvements included a new access road, three new multipurpose fields, twelve new pickleball courts and new site lighting for these areas. The new community center now includes an auditorium utilized by ARTS Huntsville and the remaining is used by the city’s parks and recreation department.
