Over the last decade, the City of Hoover has been working to make their communities more walkable. Ross Bridge Parkway was identified as a prime site for improvement due to the lack of connectivity between the existing communities and the lack of an accessible route along Ross Bridge Parkway to the Deer Valley Elementary School. Engineering Design Technologies, Inc. (EDT) worked with the City of Hoover and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to provide construction, engineering and inspection (CEI) for the construction of approximately one-mile of new sidewalks along the west side of Ross Bridge Parkway between Deer Trail Road and Deer Valley Elementary School. The project included the addition of sidewalk, improved striping and signing, installation of a large storm sewer pipe and retaining walls. The retaining walls were designed to include a stamped/stained natural stone look that ties the project in with the adjoining community. The finished product has encouraged recreational pedestrian traffic and provided a safe accessible route for school children. The construction cost for this project was $750,000.
